Insurance Audit This is just a reminder that the district will be conducting an audit of those covered by district insurance. You will need a marriage certificate if you are claiming a spouse, a form from the State of California if you are claiming a domestic partner. You will need birth certificates if you are claiming children. If you are claiming a child over 18 because he/she is enrolled in college or disabled, you will need proof of that enrollment or disability. Please don't wait until the last minute to get these documents. Frustrated By Insurance Costs? If you are tired of paying high premiums for health insurance, there are two steps you can take. You can make sure that the plan(s) you have chosen are right for you and you can get involved in the political process. You need to be aware that only about half of all people in the US have group health insurance. Many people are self-employed and cannot afford most health plans. Individual health insurance may look good until you look at the down-sides. If you are young, and healthy and aren't likely to get pregnant, you will probably get a good rate. However, all it takes is one auto accident, one skiing accident, one serious illness showing up and you will either be refused renewal or find that your premium is too high to pay. People who have a pre-existing condition either cannot get coverage or find that the condition is specifically excluded from coverage. What Can You Do? Even if you "aren't into politics," health insurance affects all of us. Just like you should not wait until you have an accident before you try to buy auto insurance, you should not wait until you need health insurance to get interested in it. Write to your Congressman and Senator. Remember, your taxes pay their salary--and they get excellent health insurance on your dime, too. Demand that they pay attention to this issue. Suggest that their quality of health insurance be available to all their constituents. Meanwhile, do little things like using a generic drug when it's available and okayed by your doctor. Get preventative check-ups so you catch problems while they are still small. Eat healthy meals, get exercise, use sunblock, wear your seatbelt--all the things your mother will tell you to do. Most Important PAY ATTENTION to the information that comes to you from the District about our health plans. Make sure that the information on your new health/dental insurance cards is accurate. You don't want to be forced to wait for coverage when you really need it. How Do You Know You Are a Teacher? HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TEACHER? by Jeff Foxworthy 1. You can hear 25 voices behind you and know exactly which one belongs to the child out of line. 2. You get a secret thrill out of laminating something. 3. You walk into a store and hear the words 'It's Ms/Mr. _________' and know you have been spotted. 4. You have 25 people that accidentally call you Mom/Dad at one time or another. 5. You can eat a multi-course meal in under twenty-five minutes. 6. You've trained yourself to go to the bathroom at two distinct times of the day: lunch and conference period. 7. You start saving other people's trash, because most likely, you can use that toilet paper tube or plastic butter tub for something in the classroom. 8. You believe chocolate is a food group. 9. You can tell if it's a full moon without ever looking outside. 10. You believe that unspeakable evils will befall you if anyone says 'Boy, the kids sure are mellow today.' 11. You feel the urge to talk to strange children and correct their behavior when you are out in public. 12. You think caffeine should be available in intravenous form. 13. You spend more money on school stuff than you do on your own children. 14. You can't pass the school supply aisle without getting at least five items! 15. You ask your friends if the left hand turn he just made was a 'good choice or a bad choice.' 16. You find true beauty in a can full of perfectly sharpened pencils. 17. You are secretly addicted to hand sanitizer.
